Chairman's Message: Kitchen upgrade and essential maintenance work to the Sportsman's Bar
10 Feb 2021The General Committee (GC) has authorised a renovation project for a kitchen upgrade and essential maintenance work for the Sportsman's Bar. The exact dates and project timeline are still being clarified by the Development Sub-committee (DSC) working with our interior design architect and various government departments. The scope of works covers three broad areas.
(1) Complete rebuild of the kitchen
This will almost double the size and bring it completely up to date. The current kitchen is 18 years old and woefully inadequate for its purpose. It is this part of the project that is the primary focus of the project.
(2) Refreshment of the front of house
The Sportsman's Bar is one of the best loved facilities in the Club and there will be no dramatic changes made other than to refresh and clean up various aspects of the Bar.
The scope is such that when you walk in after the project, the look and feel will remain as before but with a "newer and brighter" feel, with upgraded lighting, AV and air-conditioning.
(3) Refurbishment of the Sportsman’s Bar Ladies and Men's toilets

Temporary Sportsman’s Bar
During the time that the Bar is closed, it is intended to provide alternative temporary facilities on the Training Triangle to mitigate disruption. While it is only temporary, it will be designed by a specialist company and should be able to meet most anticipated demands over the renovation period.
Sportsman’s Kitchen and Bar Project oversight
A Project Steering Committee (PSC) has been formed under the Chairmanship of Nigel R Merritt. The objective of the PSC, which reports into the GC, is to provide an "independent" oversight of the project and in particular to represent member's views and thoughts on the renovation.
The PSC will not be responsible for the physical delivery of the project but will liaise closely with all parties including our members. They will take primary responsibility for member communications and will ensure that there is a smooth two way flow of information.
