HK10s, Laureus and Mind The Waves Legends Match
HK10s, Laureus and Mind The Waves Legends Match

HKFC had the pleasure of hosting Sean Fitzpatrick, the legendary former All Blacks captain and Chairman for Laureus Sport For Good, and Stephanie Au, 5-time Olympian and co-founder of Mind The Waves, as we hosted the Tradition HKFC 10s.
The collaboration with the two charities comes as part of the Tradition HKFC 10s’ 10x10 Charity Initiative, where the initiative aims to platform current and imperative causes. This year, the initiative involved a Legends Match with the hopes of raising $350,000 HKD for Laureus and Mind The Waves for the purposes of a sports and mental health programme aimed at local young people.
“As an elite athlete, we come across difficulties every day,” reminds Stephanie, when asked about the importance of mental health amongst young elite or aspiring athletes. For these goals and standards, mental health is at the forefront of needs that should be taken care of, as “it’s always the little things that can hinder you from going to training, going to sleep, and from performing.”
And with these hindrances and difficulties with understanding mental wellbeing, especially by coaches or parents, Mind The Waves hope to establish and implement their programme for young people of Hong Kong.
Mind The Waves is a charity founded in 2023 by 3 Olympic swimmers, Stephanie Au, Camille Cheng, and Jamie Yeung, with a focus on mental wellbeing amongst young Hong Kongers. Laureus Sport For Good is a foundation which supports various charities globally, with all of the organisations they support using sport as a tool to combat violence, discrimination, and disadvantages faced by young people.
The highly anticipated Legends Match duly delivered with rugby legends playing a touch rugby match on the Main Pitch. Former internationals, Jim Hamilton (63 caps for Scotland), Andy Goode (17 caps for England), Adam Ashley-Cooper (121 caps for Australia), Drew Mitchell (Australia’s highest try scorer in World Cup history), and Matt Giteau (103 caps for Australia) mixed it up with the Hong Kong rugby community, which also featured a handful of past and present internationals.
