About the role
Sports are the foundation of HKFC. The 11 sports played at the Club are mainly managed independently by volunteer members and depending on the size and/or history of each sport, a light or a full committee is in place.
While the devotion and the dynamism of all Sports’ committee members result in both happy and satisfied Club members, and contribute to the professional image of the Club, there is a need to run the Sport Function as “one”.
The position of Director of Sports is newly created. It reflects the Club’s objectives to:
1. Ensure appropriate governance is in place within and across the Sports Function
2. Identify and implement new sources of revenue
3. Actively contribute to HKFC as a premier Sport venue, locally and worldwide.
Job Responsibilities
- Actively contribute to continuously increasing the image and the visibility of the Club as one of the most Professional Sports Club in Hong Kong and in the Region
- In close cooperation with the Senior Sports Manager/Sports Manager and each Committee, ensure that each sport is managed at all times up to the Club expectations, in term of professionalism and image
- Supervise and validate the choice of key activities for each Sport. Evaluate current offering for sports while give recommendations on new sports and activities. (strength & conditioning, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, injury prevention).
- Ensure that all aspects of the club's sports, facilities, and recreational activities operate at desired levels consistently while maintaining or increasing member satisfaction year by year.
- Be the appointed safeguarding officer for the club and oversight of all sports activities – juniors, participation & recreation, through to performance & elite.
- Recruitment and management of HKFC sports staff.
- Be the main point of contact for major sporting events and tournament, communicate closely with Sports Sections and Sections Committees, F&B, FoH, and Head of Operations, while leading operational sports resources related to tournament delivery.
- Provide support and maintain a high level of reciprocal trust and respect with all key stakeholders of the Club, and more specifically each Section, Society, DSA, Interest Group, and the Sports and Recreation Sub-committee
- Add value in stakeholder engagement (sponsors & sports governing bodies).
- Direct line management of the sports section directors, conducting regular performance appraisals and instilling best in class practices for them (planning & delivery of coaching sessions, recruitment of volunteers, communication).
- Develop common yearly objectives between the Sports Function and each Section, Society, DSA, and Interest Group, while assisting sections in formulating goals for their sports (performance, participation, engagement).
- Develop initiatives to increase the financial results of each and all Sports while driving economies of scale in procurement.
Experience
- Degree or diploma holder in Business Management, Sports, or Recreational Management
- 10 years supervision experience within the sports, recreation, and Club House industries
- Understanding of Clubs’ ecosystem and governance
- Experience in dealing with sporting organisations and federations both locally and internationally
- Experience in managing operations jointly run by volunteers and full-time employees
- Knowledge of coaching and elite performance would be desirable
- At ease dealing with different personalities, cultures, and hierarchical levels
- Strong communication and analytical skills
- Strong teamwork and customer/member service driven
- Well organised, proactive, self-motivated, and able to work to stated objectives
- Good command on spoken and written English (must) and Cantonese (preferred)
