    Ladies Junk Trip

    15 Jul 2020

After a rather odd 2019/20 squash season, the Ladies Squash Section started the 2020/21 season with a few bangs! First Bang! – is the inauguration of the former World No. 62, Carmen Lee as the Ladies Squash Captain. Second Bang! – for the first time in recent decades, the ladies ventured outside the Club for their first social event of 2020/21. The new captain and her equally capable Vice Captain, Monique Wong called out for a ladies only (sorry guys!) junk on 12 July 2020. (thankfully before the recent tightening of social distancing rules!!)

The event was welcomed by most ladies after a pretty subdued year and certainly not to be outdone by their male counterparts, the event was almost fully subscribed! With temperatures of around 29-33 Celsius and south westerly winds of approximately 11-16 knots, the bikinis, sun block and suntan lotion were swiftly on display!

We cruised to Po Toi island and had a sumptuous seafood feast and then on to Shek O. Some ladies were sceptical about entering the water whilst others dove right in the minute the anchor hit!!! (not sure if this was entirely due to the temperature). The champagne was popped for the adults, including the Captain (who claims she can’t consume anything above 4%) and the Vice Captain. By mid-afternoon, complaints of sun burn emerged and a group photo was immediately arranged before we all resembled lobsters!

The final Bang!! - after spending 8 hours on a junk, the ladies had certainly fostered a better relationship despite all the different backgrounds and age groups!! “The solidarity displayed today will certainly motivate me to bring the Ladies Section to a whole new level” said the newly crowned Ladies Captain and vehemently agreed by her Vice Captain.

This event was made possible under the leadership of Carmen and Monique. Kudos to this dynamic duo for all the effort in organizing this HOT event!!
