Radar Gun Operation Santa Claus Charity Challenge

    14 Jul 2020

What started out as a 2 month project in November 2017 ended up taking almost three years to complete but nevertheless im very happy to report that the radar gun charity challenge benefitting Operation Santa Claus is officially over with HK$16k raised. And we have a new fastest ball basher, Pieter Le Roux, pipping Andy Ward who co-won in 2012 and again in 2014. Peter's top speed of 151mph propelled him to the top but he was closely followed by HKCC's Chris Evans with 147mph, and Nathan Rosenzweig at 145mph. Coach Carmen Lee won the ladies category with a speed of 130mph. The best advice I can give you is to not stand anywhere in front of these guys in case of an errant shot!

Please see the full list of winners below and snaps of some of the happy participants although their speeds might be difficult to read in the small photos. Once again many thanks to Malcolm Kerr for donating Skint Wallets to all of the winners (as he did in 2014 as well), all of the more than 180 participants, to David Murray for coordinating all of the donations to Operation Santa Claus, and to a few anonymous donors.

It's been a great journey holding these radar gun charity challenges over the past 8 years and I sadly hereby officially retire from radar duty. I enjoyed meeting so many members and visitors and have fond memories of many smiling participants whacking the living daylights out of the ball for a great charity cause. If anyone wishes to see the full results by age category please reach out to me or check the screen at the HKFC Squash Centre in case we’re able to get the results posted there.
