Home Away From Home: The Tanglin Club

    03 Jul 2025

As the second part in our ‘Home Away From Home’ series, where we showcase our various reciprocal clubs for when you’re out of town, we’re introducing a club that is just a stone’s throw away from home.

In a city that often feels like Hong Kong, is a club that will excite our members as much as HKFC does: The Tanglin Club! Founded in 1865, the Tanglin Club in Singapore started off with a mere “forty good men and true” and has since grown to over 4,000 members, cementing itself as one of the city's oldest and most prestigious clubs.

For those who want to use their reciprocal membership privileges at this club, it’s stocked with everything you could possibly need for the next time you visit Singapore, from any of their 27 suites, playroom, hair salon, and more.

Apart from the squash courts, swimming pool, tennis courts, and other sporting facilities, the Tanglin club also boasts nice details that many are sure to find unique: a library that stocks an outrageous selection of 20,000 books, a jackpot room (remember, you’re only one gamble away from a big win!), a tea room, as well as a fun variety of sport and non-sport sections & clubs!

And I’m not just talking about pickleball or billiards. The club has a mahjong section (perfect for the aunties and uncles who may want to escape the summer heat & humidity), an art section, photography section, wine circle (Cab Sav on a Monday afternoon?), movie club, and more.

So if you’re not travelling very far for your next trip, and you’re looking for a quick spot that feels both familiar and new, maybe the Tanglin Club is a fit for you.

(And if your travel plans will take you to London this summer, why not take a look at another one of our featured reciprocal clubs: The Lansdowne Club! To help you decide, read up on the Mayfair-based club here.)

    How To Visit

For those who want to use the reciprocal membership for the Tanglin Club (or any of our other reciprocal clubs, which we will be featuring on this blog), members should apply for an Introductory Letter from the Membership Department

To obtain this Introductory Letter, call 2830 9500 or email membership@hkfc.com.

An Introductory Letter should be presented to the reciprocal club’s front desk, where it will be exchanged for a Visitor’s Club Card.

Members must contact the reciprocal club directly to book rooms or accommodation before their visit.
