Club Squash Smashing It in The HKFC Masters 2025

    06 Jun 2025

Looking back at Club Squash in 1987, you'll notice that it's not so different to today—HKFC’s squash legacy thrives on inclusivity and elite competition, proven again at the Endowus Hong Kong Masters Squash Open 2025.

From its early days, squash has been a cornerstone of HKFC’s culture, fostering fierce competition, camaraderie, and an unshakeable passion among its members. If you take a peek back into Club Squash’s history, it may come as no surprise that squash has always been one of the most popular and active sections at the Hong Kong Football Club.

The section’s success wasn’t measured by trophies alone–what truly mattered was the sheer number of people participating and their enjoyment of the game. And with this great engagement from its members, it’s no doubt that participation was sky high, and so were the scores. When the Club tried to limit access to top players only in ‘87. The move was met with disappointment, and a drop in engagement, and that year was rated one of the least successful for Club Squash. Without the limits, the section flourished, with the ladies section dominating HK Ladies Squash Championships, and establishing the instant hit that is Junior Squash.

The club’s rich history and world-class facilities has naturally attracted elite competition having hosted the WSF World Squash World Team Championships last year.

Last weekend, we were again proud to host a brilliant event: the Endowus Hong Kong Masters Squash Open 2025. It kicked off on Friday evening to brilliant matches in Courts 6 & 7, with great turnout from our members. It ran until Sunday June 1st, where the squash section came down to witness the display of tactical precision and high level competition.

Special congratulations to our members who won in the Open: Brian MacDougall (65+ Men’s), Stuart Gates (55+ Men’s), Andrew Ward (40+ Men’s), Karen Lau (35+ Women’s), Chiu Ho Fai (35+ Men’s). Additional honourable mentions to members who achieved a strong second place in their matches: Alex Hartley & Phil Head!
